ERP International: Veterans who continue to serve – Spotlight on Johnny Sanchez

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

November 9, 2021

Johnny Sanchez’ Army career began in 1991 when the San Bernardino, Calif., native joined the Army National Guard. Completing basic training in South Carolina and wanting to go into healthcare, he was transferred to Fitzsimons Army Medical Center in Aurora, Colo., for training as a biomedical technician. His charge was to ensure the safe use, application, testing, preventative maintenance, and repair of all types of clinical equipment.

However, after switching to active duty in 1994, the Army sent him to Aberdeen Proving Ground, Md., to learn Tank Turret/Small Arms Repairer skills.

In nearly 25 years in active duty, Johnny completed multiple combat support deployments, including South Korea and Iraq; service as an Advanced Individual Training Instructor at Aberdeen; a Warrant Officer at Ft. Bliss, Texas, and Chief Warrant Officer 2 at Schofield Barracks, Hawaii, before retiring in late 2017. In 2018, he joined ERP International as Site lead and Biomedical Equipment Tech at Brooke Army Medical Center (BAMC) in San Antonio, Texas.

Why ERP International? The ERP position fulfilled his desire to return to healthcare. “I am proud of my service to our nation. As a veteran I feel responsible to be a good citizen and promote the idea of military service to our capable youth so they can have a role in defending the nation and in the process, learn a trade,” he says.

“The Army gave me valuable technical experience and allowed me to experience life outside the bubble of my hometown. I grew to value my service and appreciate the camaraderie and sacrifices of my fellow service men and women in our common goal to answer the nation’s call and take care of our families. Working for ERP in support of a military medical treatment facility helps me continue serving the country by supporting former and present military members.”

BAMC and its six separate outpatient clinics serve 240,000 military beneficiaries throughout the greater-San Antonio region. As the sole Level I Trauma Center within the Military Health System, it serves as the premier medical readiness training platform for both the Army and the Air Force, while caring for more than 4,000 military and civilian trauma patients and handling 80,000 emergency department visits annually.

Johnny supervises and trains a large ERP team of biomedical equipment techs in all aspects of clinical equipment operation and maintenance.

When off duty, Johnny enjoys exploring different music genres on his trumpet.  He volunteers for Bugles Across America, which recognizes the service veterans have provided to their country with the sentiment that they deserve – giving a live rendition of Taps played by a real bugler, rather than a recording and fake horn. “There are veterans from every generation, and I feel an emotional connection whenever playing at their funerals.”

From Army uniform to medical scrubs, Johnny’s commitment to America continues. Thank you for your service, Johnny.
