Laurel, MD – ERP International is pleased to announce that the James Madison University (JMU) Alumni Association honored Melvin Petty, ERP International CEO and co-founder, with the Ronald E. Carrier Alumni Achievement Award at the Distinguished Alumni Awards Banquet on March 10 at JMU in Harrisonburg, Va.

The Carrier Award is the highest recognition bestowed by the JMU alumni association and recognizes an alumnus/a who has demonstrated significant achievements of enduring value to society. The association presented additional awards to five other alumni that evening.

Melvin graduated from JMU in 1984 with a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting. He and his wife, Sandra, to whom he dedicated the award, co-founded government contracting firm ERP International, providing healthcare and medical research, science and technology services to federal civilian and military agencies, veterans, and the commercial sector across the United States.

ERP International has been in business for 16 years and is one of the most successful private companies in Maryland, with annual revenues over $120 million.

Contributing to society in many other ways, Melvin has applied his life-long mission to provide access to opportunities and combat inequities for students of color and serves as a mentor and leader for business and philanthropic organizations. Under Melvin’s leadership, ERP has supported charitable organizations including the Ole School Alumni Scholarship Group at JMU.

In his acceptance speech Melvin thanked his ERP staff stating, “I would like to give a shoutout to my colleagues at ERP for their leadership and commitment to supporting minority businesses and helping shift the wealth paradigm in our society.”
